Recommendations for an Advocacy Campaign Supporting UNRWA
Not To Forget Association implements these workshops as part of the "Voices of Refugee Women" project, funded by the African Women's Development Fund.As part of Not To Forget Association’s efforts to empower women in the popular committees of Palestinian refugee camps and to support their needs while creating a safe environment, workshops were held across ten Palestinian camps in the northern and central West Bank. Approximately 150 participants, including men and women, attended these workshops, representing women in the popular committees, as well as representatives of institutions and active forces within the camps.
The workshops addressed critical topics, including the services provided to refugees in the camps and the role of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), especially in light of threats to reduce its services. The discussions also highlighted the importance of empowering women in the camps and reviewed the conditions of the camps, particularly those facing frequent incursions by the occupation. The destruction of infrastructure during these incursions has exacerbated violence, especially among teenagers and children. Participants emphasized the need for psychological and social support for women, children, and men in the camps.
The workshops concluded with a set of recommendations, including launching a national, international, and local advocacy campaign to protect UNRWA and oppose its replacement with any other institution. Additionally, the recommendations called for fostering influential female leadership to strengthen the resilience of refugees in their camps.
